Morongo Basin Cultural Arts Council was formed in 2002, to continue the work begun with the first Open Studio Tours a year earlier. In an era when arts funding, including school arts programs, and support for arts and artists in general, has waned, the MBCAC has been at the forefront of a burgeoning arts community in the most unlikely of places, on the edge of the Mojave desert, in the communities surrounding Joshua Tree national Park.

Supportive of all the arts, MBCAC (or The Arts Council) is a non profit organization, with an Artist Supply Thrift Store called Donation=Creation located in the village of Joshua Tree, the force behind the successful, monthly, Second Saturday Gallery Crawl and the producer of events year-round, including the hi desert's premiere annual arts event, the Hwy 62 Art Tours, celebrating it's tenth anniversary.
