William Gibbs Hanson was born in Los Angeles October 13, 1919. His long creative life began at Art Center College of Design (L.A.), then the Slade School of Fine Arts in London and private instruction in art and architecture in Florence and Rome. His private practice in design drew celebrity clients including Vera Miles, Elvis Presley, Sammy Davis Jr and many others.

In the 1960s he was hired to re-design Pioneertown as a glorified golf resort, and no one was happier than he when the project failed. Wil did not exhibit until the last years of his life. His first science-fiction novel, "Smoke in the Wind," was published at age 85, and he completed the sequel just before his death in Yucca Valley in 2007.
